How to Play Shadowgate Classic
Quick start
On the western version, select a language and confirm with A, then choose NEW GAME. At the entrance, use OPEN on the skull above the door and TAKE the key it reveals. OPEN the entrance door and MOVE inside; the hidden key is not required for that front door. Collect the torches in the first hall, inspect the available items and use the on-screen SAVE command before risky experiments.
Controls
D-pad moves the cursor or selects options. A activates a command or chosen object; B cancels a selection. START centres the cursor. SELECT displays available hints. Choose a command and then its target with A; MOVE uses an exit or the movement window. Use SELF for actions on your character, and choose SAVE on the command screen to record progress.
Shadowgate Classic — About this game
The cursor replaces direct character movement: select commands such as LOOK, OPEN, TAKE and USE, then choose an object or exit. Some tools work on the adventurer through SELF, while the inventory gathers items and learned spells. Torches eventually burn out, with a change in music warning you to light another. On-screen saving and the SELECT hint function help you tackle the castle's traps methodically.
