How to Play Short Order / Eggsplode!

Quick start

Use Side B of the original Power Pad, connected to port 2. Step on pad 9 for Short Order or pad 10 for Eggsplode! For an easier Short Order start, press pads 1+2 together to select the ten-ingredient challenge. Watch the order, then repeat it using the ingredient pairs. For Eggsplode!, choose 1–5 players by stepping on the corresponding pad number, then stamp on each bomb's nest number before it explodes. Leave eggs untouched.

Controls

These are original Power Pad numbers, not keyboard number keys. Short Order ingredients require simultaneous pairs: 1+2 meat, 3+4 cheese, 5+6 tomato, 7+8 lettuce. Its menu uses those pairs for 10/20/30/40-ingredient games; 9+10 selects Challenge 99 and 11+12 selects two-player play. In Eggsplode!, each numbered pad matches the nest in the same position on screen; step on bombs, not eggs. Ordinary controller A/B, START, SELECT and D-pad are not used. Hardware RESET returns to the title screen and clears the high score.

Short Order / Eggsplode! — About this game

Short Order tests how long you can remember an animal customer's hamburger order. Begin with three ingredients, repeat the sequence and keep extending it as another ingredient is added. Fixed challenges range from ten to forty ingredients, while Challenge 99 pushes memory much further; a two-player option alternates growing orders. Eggsplode! switches to a chicken coop where foxes plant timed bombs under the hens. Match each nest to its Power Pad number and stamp out the bomb before it detonates, without crushing the eggs. Both games use Side B of the original NES Power Pad rather than a standard controller.
