How to Play Sonic Rush

Quick start

Press START on the title screen and choose Gameplay. Begin Sonic’s route in Leaf Storm Act 1: gather rings, use A or B to jump, and follow the course through both screens. Practice landing safely before spending Tension on X or Y boosts. Clear the two acts and the first Zone boss to unlock Blaze’s story; she is not available from a fresh start.

Controls

Left/right moves and builds speed; press the opposite direction to brake. A or B jumps, and X or Y boosts on the ground while Tension is available. During a normal jump, R performs Sonic’s Jump Dash or Blaze’s forward-moving Burst Hover. From a standstill, hold Down, press A/B, then release Down for a spinning dash. START pauses. In menus, A confirms and B goes back; the stylus also selects menu items.

Sonic Rush — About this game

Sonic meets Blaze, a visitor from another dimension who is pursuing the stolen Sol Emeralds, as the two worlds become entangled. Their separate routes combine fast running, loops, springs and platforming across both Nintendo DS screens. Defeating enemies and performing tricks builds the Tension Gauge, which fuels bursts of speed, so a well-timed jump can help sustain the next dash. Sonic and Blaze have their own aerial moves for crossing gaps. Rings offer protection from ordinary hits, but rushing past an unseen drop is still dangerous. Replaying stages reveals alternate paths and opportunities to improve your rank.
