How to Play Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe

Quick start

Choose Quick Start from the game-selection menu for a consequence-free match before entering Knock Out, Cup or Championship. You automatically control the Brutal Deluxe player nearest the metal ball. Use the Control Pad to close down the carrier and press A without possession to tackle or intercept; once you collect the ball, aim with the Control Pad and press A to pass or shoot. Your immediate aim is to throw the ball into the opposing goal for 10 points and finish with the higher score. For the first few matches, concentrate on short passes and the goal rather than the harder wall targets. Pick up armour, cash and temporary-effect tokens when they lie on your route, but do not abandon your defensive position just to collect one.

Controls

Control Pad: move the automatically selected player nearest the ball and aim a throw. A: context action — pass or shoot while holding the ball; tackle, intercept or attempt a catch without it. The GBA conversion's match play is deliberately built around the Control Pad and face buttons; the active player changes automatically as the ball moves. START pauses. In menus, move the cursor with the Control Pad and follow the displayed A/B prompts to confirm or return. No shoulder-button match action was confirmed in the reviewed GBA material.
