How to Play Spelunker

Quick start

Press START to enter the cavern. Practice jumping over small rocks with A and catching a rope or ladder with a direction plus A before attempting a gap. Search for energy and the key matching the next locked door. When a ghost approaches, stand on solid ground and fire with B. Save flares for bats and step away after placing dynamite beside an obstruction; its blast is dangerous to you as well.

Controls

Control Pad: move; operate elevators up/down and boats or mine cars left/right. A: jump, including jumps onto or off ropes and ladders. B: fire the Phantom Blaster while standing on solid ground. Up + B: fire a flare if one is available. Down + B: place dynamite if available; retreat before it explodes. START: begin, pause or resume. Only Controller 1 is used.

Spelunker — About this game

Spelunker turns a treasure hunt into a test of careful movement and resource management. Your explorer must cross narrow ledges, catch ropes and ladders, and use elevators, boats and mine cars to reach new passages. Colored keys unlock matching doors, while energy pickups keep the expedition alive. Ghosts can be fought with the Phantom Blaster from firm ground, but bats call for a flare and large rocks require dynamite. These tools have different purposes, so collecting supplies is as important as finding the route. A fall or an empty energy meter costs a life; progress depends on controlled jumps rather than charging blindly into the next chamber.
