From the main menu, choose Exhibition and press A for a one-off nine-inning game. Use Up/Down to choose your team and Left/Right to set its skill level, press A, then repeat for the computer team. At bat, position the batter and time an A-button swing; on defense, choose a pitch and work toward three outs. For a longer campaign, choose Season instead—wins and experience let you improve the team as it advances through three leagues.

Menus use the D-Pad to highlight choices and A to confirm. Batting: D-Pad positions the batter, A swings, and holding B bunts; hold Left/Right while bunting to direct it. Pitching: Left/Right moves the pitcher; A throws a regular pitch, Down+A a fastball, Right+A a curve, Left+A a slider, and Up+A a change-up; hold a base direction plus B for a pickoff throw. Fielding: D-Pad moves the selected fielder; hold a base direction plus B to throw there (Right first, Up second, Left third, Down home), while B alone throws to the cutoff man from the outfield or pitcher from the infield. Running: hold L plus the runner's current-base direction to advance, R plus the base just left to retreat, and L+R plus the target-base direction during the windup to steal. Start pauses.
