At the title screen press Start or A, choose a language with the D-Pad and Start or A, then select New Game from the main menu. Choose Easy, Medium or Hard for Story Mode; changing Story difficulty later requires starting a new game. Your first job is to choose which villain Kermit will pursue: move left or right in the tracking room and press the six foreground buttons until their colors match the six lights beneath one villain's picture. Next, equip the spy vehicle by matching each silhouette to the correct component before time expires. Pay attention to Agent Patriot's briefing before every mission because it explains the next objective.

Menus: D-Pad scrolls, A confirms, and Start also advances the title and language screens; in the password screen A enters a letter and B erases. Activity Mode uses Left/Right to switch villains' mission lists, Up/Down to highlight a mission, and A to choose it. Controls change by activity. In Choose a Villain, Left/Right moves Kermit, A or B presses the button in front of him, and Start pauses. In Equip Vehicle, all four D-Pad directions highlight components, A or B attempts to install the highlighted part, and Start pauses.
