How to Play Stanley: The Search for Dr. Livingston
Quick start
Press START at the title. A advances the journal text; START continues to the map and begins the expedition. Move the map's flag with the Control Pad and enter an area with A. Explore the opening town's buildings, speak to Chilo with B and look for supplies. Hold A during a jump to deploy the auto-gyro. Use START to select equipment, then START again to return.
Controls
Left/Right: move. Up: climb vines, ladders and certain stairs, or enter doorways. Down: descend vines/ladders or crouch; Down + Left/Right crawls. A: jump; hold during a jump for the auto-gyro, steering with Left/Right. A also enters map areas. B: selected weapon or conversation/next dialogue; START ends dialogue. START: open equipment selection, use the Control Pad to choose, then START to return. A or B from that subscreen opens personal status; START closes it. SELECT: password display/input. In password entry, Left/Right chooses a letter and Up/Down changes it; at the last letter, START, A or B submits it.
Stanley: The Search for Dr. Livingston — About this game
As reporter Henry M. Stanley, you follow the missing doctor's trail toward the legendary temple of Am-Zutuk. A world map links side-scrolling areas filled with dangerous wildlife, climbing routes and hidden supplies. Talking to people and investigating buildings helps uncover the equipment needed to continue. Stanley can crawl through tight spaces and deploy his backpack's auto-gyro to guide a descent rather than simply dropping from a height. Weapons, health and defensive upgrades make exploration more manageable, while passwords let you return to supported stages. Progress depends on remembering routes and revisiting places with useful equipment, not just defeating enemies.
