How to Play Super Black Onyx

Quick start

After the title, select NEW TEAM, compare the candidates' abilities, occupations, and possessions and decide the leader with A. Next, add allies to your team and create a team that includes MONKs and MAGEs, rather than relying only on avant-garde HEROs, and you'll have more options for tools and magic. To explore, press top to move forward, turn left and right to 90 degrees, bottom to move backwards, and press A on stairs. Don't rush far from the beginning, collect experience points and gold around town, and go to shops to equip yourself with equipment suitable for each occupation. Open CAMP with B and check the order, equipment, and status frequently. You can save from the RHEDEN icon, so you can record your progress before proceeding to a new floor or dangerous area, and leave a map for yourself to make it harder to get lost.

Controls

The cross button is used to move the cursor and window. In the labyrinth, take one step forward at the top, turn 90 degrees left and right, take one step back at the bottom, and pass through the door at the top. The A button is used to decide your team and battle mode, go up and down stairs, and go shopping. Press B while moving to open the CAMP screen, select the adventurer with up and down, select items and functions with left and right, use B to decide on equipment, use, rearrange, etc., and press A to return to exploration. During encounters, choose A to fight, and B to adjust equipment. After the battle begins, you can press A repeatedly the moment your weapon or magic approaches the enemy, and use up and down to aim at another enemy. You can change your actions and equipment by pressing B during battle. The in-game functions of START and SELECT are not listed because they cannot be confirmed in the original book.

Super Black Onyx — About this game

"Super Black Onyx" is a dungeon RPG for the Famicom in which you explore the giant labyrinth Onyx Tower from a first-person perspective. Create a team of up to 5 people by adding allies to the main character, the leader, and combining HEROs who use weapons, MONKs who use ritual tools, and MAGEs who manipulate the magical power of jewels. The tower is divided into 14 areas, including town, forest, ice, and underwater, and is intricately connected with doors, stairs, fountains, shops, and transfer points. In battle, you can choose to fight, wait and see, or run away, prepare each adventurer's equipment and defenses, and then input attacks according to the flying weapons and magic. Mapping, equipment updates, class experience points development, and the order of allies will affect your strategy, and in the end, you will solve the mystery of the tower, obtain the Black Onyx, and fulfill your mission to hide it in eternal darkness.
