How to Play Super Mario Bros. Deluxe
Quick start
Press A at the title, choose ORIGINAL 1985 and select an empty file with A. In the opening course, hit question blocks from below to find a Super Mushroom. Practise short jumps before holding B for a running leap.
Controls
Left/right: move. A: jump or swim; hold longer for a higher jump. B: run or throw fireballs with a Fire Flower. Down: crouch as Super Mario or enter suitable pipes. Up: look above. SELECT: shift Mario’s screen position. START: pause; save from the Original 1985 pause menu.

Super Mario Bros. Deluxe brings the Mushroom Kingdom adventure to Game Boy Color with an Original 1985 campaign that lets you save your progress and separate Challenge objectives. Run, jump and collect power-ups as you cross enemy-filled courses and work towards rescuing the princess.
Challenge revisits cleared courses with hidden red coins, a Yoshi egg and score targets. The smaller screen makes looking ahead useful, while the pause menu in Original 1985 lets you save progress between attempts.
