How to Play Super Spike V'Ball / Nintendo World Cup
Quick start
At GAME SELECT, move the pointer with the D-pad and press START on the sport you want. Volleyball: press START at its title, choose a mode with SELECT or the D-pad and confirm with START. For practice, select a tournament option, EXERCISE, then GAME START. Serve with A to toss and A again to hit; move to the X landing marker for returns. Soccer: choose the player/match mode and press START, pick a country and adjust player positions if desired. Set strategy with A, then select the exit box and press A to play. Use A to pass and B to shoot when attacking.
Controls
Shared: D-pad moves players and menu cursors; START starts or pauses each game. Volleyball: A hits; B jumps. Serve with A, then A again; for a jump serve, add B after the toss before hitting with A. Jump with B and hit with A to spike; repeatedly press B at least three times while airborne before A for a Super Spike. SELECT also moves option cursors. Soccer: A passes/requests a pass, B shoots/requests a shot. On defense, A tackles and B slides, or asks a closer teammate to do so. A+B together activates a Super Kick, limited to five per half. The D-pad aims passes/shots; SELECT is unused in soccer.
Super Spike V'Ball / Nintendo World Cup — About this game
This US NES compilation contains two separate sports games, selected from an opening menu. Super Spike V'Ball puts two-person beach-volleyball teams on court, where you follow the ball's landing marker, build an attack and time jumps for spikes or blocks. Nintendo World Cup switches to soccer: you steer one player while computer teammates follow your tactical choices and pass or shoot when instructed. Its tournament and match modes encourage both cooperation and rivalry, while special kicks provide a limited attacking resource. Each game has its own controls and setup screens, so learning one does not automatically teach the other. Original hardware needs a four-player adapter for the three- and four-person options; ordinary solo and two-player choices remain available separately.
