How to Play Taisen Tsume Shougi
Quick start
Choose a problem from the main menu. Locate the defending king and inspect your pieces in hand. Select a checking move, examine the reply and continue the mating line. Begin with a short problem so that you can see why each escape square is covered.
Controls
Use the D-pad to move the board cursor and menu highlight. A selects a piece or destination and confirms menu choices; B cancels a selection or returns. For a drop, select a piece in hand and then a legal square. Follow the displayed choices when reviewing or retrying a problem.
Taisen Tsume Shougi — About this game
The challenge is to force mate rather than develop a full opening. A useful attack must keep checking while closing flight squares and accounting for captures, interpositions and drops. Short problems build recognition of common mating shapes; longer variations demand a more careful look at the defender's strongest response. Work through the position one move at a time and reconsider the whole line when a promising sacrifice fails.
