How to Play Shingen the Ruler

Quick start

Press START to begin a new game; use the Control Pad to choose items and A to confirm. Check your territory's rice, money and troops before issuing orders. Develop farms or assist the population so recruitment has an economy behind it, and avoid selling away the rice needed to march. When you choose to fight manually, distribute the troops among units and press START to accept the deployment. Select friendly units to issue orders, watch enemy ranges and keep headquarters protected. Use the in-game Save command when you want to record the campaign.

Controls

Control Pad: select commands, units and destinations; when entering numbers, Up/Down change the value and Left/Right select the digit. A: confirm; in battle, select friendly-unit commands or inspect an enemy unit. B: cancel. SELECT: cycle territory parameters during domestic management, or show both armies' total strength in battle. START: begin the game, confirm troop distribution, or move the battle cursor to a unit that can still move.

Shingen the Ruler — About this game

Takeda Shingen 2 is the Japanese Famicom release of the strategy game known in North America as Shingen the Ruler. Shingen the Ruler puts you in charge of Takeda Shingen's domain and its future under his heir. Territory management is the foundation of the campaign: develop farmland, support the population and balance rice, money and recruitment before committing an army. Weapons turn infantry into specialized forces, giving cavalry, archers and riflemen different uses in battle. You can let battles resolve automatically or distribute your troops and direct units yourself, using movement and range while protecting headquarters. Losing that key force can cost the engagement even when other soldiers remain. Expansion therefore involves more than winning a single fight: each new territory needs management, supplies and a plan for the next advance.
