How to Play Tale of Despereaux, The
Quick start
Start the story and practise movement and jumping. Follow the first wall or grapple demonstration. At a dark passage use the lighting task, then look ahead before passing rats or gaps.
Controls
Move with the D-pad and use displayed action buttons for jumping, crouching, grappling and the needle. Use the stylus for the shown flame-transfer task; check which object is the source and which needs lighting.

Walls, hanging routes and objects call for more than a simple running jump. Light is useful against rats: touch tasks let you light candles and keep a lantern ready in dark areas. Begin by practising a short jump and the first climbing or grappling prompt. Before crossing a dangerous section, look for a light source and a safe landing; after a fall, use the nearby checkpoint to try a more careful route.
