How to Play Tecmo Baseball
Quick start
Press START at the title screen, choose ONE PLAYER with the D-pad, and confirm with A. Select the DH rule, your team, and a starting pitcher; the top three pitchers have the stamina suited to starting, while the lower three are intended more for relief. When pitching, use Up or Down with A to change speed, then steer the pitch during the windup and after release. At bat, move left or right in the box and press A to swing; stop the bat midway for a bunt. Use START before the windup to call time and B to open the substitution list while time is out.
Controls
Menus: D-pad moves the cursor, A confirms, START begins from the title screen, and SELECT is unused. Pitching: move Up/Down to shift the pitcher; hold Up or Down while pressing A for pitch speed, use the D-pad during the windup for location and after release for curve or drop; press B for the field view on a pickoff, choose a base, then A to throw. Batting: Left/Right shifts the batter, Up/Down sets swing height, and A swings; stop the swing midway to bunt. Running: choose a runner with the D-pad, press B to advance and A to return; Down returns all runners on a high fly. Fielding: D-pad moves fielders, B makes the nearest fielder jump, and a direction plus A throws to that base. START calls time before the windup; during time-out, B opens the player list and A confirms a substitute.
Tecmo Baseball — About this game
Tecmo Baseball is an NES baseball game for one or two players, with standard team games, one- or two-player All-Star games, and a Watch mode that lets the computer play both sides. In the one-player campaign, you choose a roster and starting pitcher, try to win six games and your league pennant, then face the other league's champion in a series. On the field you control pitch speed, location and break, move the batter and time swings, attempt bunts and steals, direct fielders, throw to specific bases, manage runners, call time, and make pinch-hitting or relief-pitching substitutions. A password system preserves progress between sessions.
