How to Play Tecmo Bowl
Quick start
Use SELECT to choose 1 PLAYER on the title screen and press START. Choose a team with the D-pad and A. Select a formation by holding its displayed direction and pressing A. On offense, press A to snap; steer a running play with the D-pad, or use A to cycle receivers and B to throw on a passing play. On defense, choose your player with A before play begins, move toward the runner and press B to dive.
Controls
D-pad: move players or choose menu items. Formation selection: displayed direction plus A. A snaps the ball on offense; during a pass play it cycles the target receiver, and B throws. Repeated A presses help break an opponent's grip. Before a defensive play, A selects your player; approach the runner and press B for a diving tackle. For kickoffs, field goals and punts, press A or B while watching the kick-strength meter. B opens the kick menu on the offensive formation screen; choose with the D-pad and A. That menu appears automatically on fourth down. SELECT chooses the title-screen mode; START begins it.
Tecmo Bowl — About this game
Tecmo Bowl combines direct player control with a choice of four formations between plays. Use running plays to break through the defense or select a passing play, switch the target receiver and throw into space. On defense, choose a player before the snap, close in on the ball carrier and attempt a diving tackle. The game offers a one-player challenge against the computer, head-to-head play and a Coach mode focused on choosing formations while the computer handles the action. Passwords let you resume the one-player challenge. Fourth down adds another decision: keep attacking, try a field goal or punt the ball away. Success depends on both moving your player well and anticipating the other side's play call.
