How to Play The Blue Marlin
Quick start
Press START at the title screen, choose START GAME with Up/Down and A, and enter a name with the D-pad and A. Finish with START, then confirm the name with A. Choose a fishing point with Left/Right and confirm with START. Accelerate with A and steer with Left/Right. Pass your trailing lure just behind a school without running the boat through it. Press SELECT while cruising to inspect or change tackle; choose with Up/Down and A. Once a fish strikes, press Down to lift the rod, release Down and press A to reel in slack rather than simply reeling continuously.
Controls
Fishing-point selection: Left/Right to browse, START to confirm. Boat: Left/Right steers, A accelerates and B reverses. Fight: Left/Right turns the angler; Down raises the rod, then release Down and press A to reel in slack. Up thumbs the reel as a brake. B toggles the drag between tight and loose. SELECT opens the context-sensitive command menu; Up/Down selects, A confirms and B cancels. Cruising commands adjust line and lure settings; fighting commands can cut the line or reverse the boat. START pauses during play.
The Blue Marlin — About this game
The Blue Marlin combines boat handling, trolling and a close-up fight with the fish you hook. Four tournaments run from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with the largest Blue Marlin deciding the winner; victory advances you to the next event. Each location offers three fishing points. Steer so the lure trailing your boat passes behind a school of fish rather than driving straight through and scattering it. While cruising, the command menu lets you adjust line strength, line length, lure type and lure depth. Once a fish strikes, work the rod and reel, alternate drag settings and watch the strain on the line. Pumping means lifting the rod, lowering it and reeling in the resulting slack. Your angler's condition, the fish's behavior and the remaining tournament time all matter when landing a big catch.
