How to Play The Great Waldo Search

Quick start

Press START and choose Normal for a larger, easier view or Expert for more tightly hidden targets. Select one of the four starting realms with Left/Right and confirm with A. As soon as the scene opens, move the magnifying glass across the panorama and press A on Waldo and the magic scroll; both are required to finish. Grab visible clocks for extra time and point markers for score. Finding Woof is optional in ordinary play and starts a carpet bonus round controlled with the D-pad. In Expert mode, two clocks in succession stop time and display an extra target clue. Complete all four realms to enter the final Land of the Waldos search.

Controls

Controller 1: D-pad moves the magnifying glass in four directions and toggles crystal-ball choices; A selects people/items in the scene and confirms a realm; B cancels the previous selection. START begins the game. START+SELECT together reset to the beginning. Controller 2 optional Parent Feature: hold A to force the view toward Waldo, then the scroll, then Woof; press B to turn off the timer. Activating Parent Feature makes finding Woof mandatory for level completion. In Woof’s carpet bonus round, steer with the D-pad to collect point blocks.

The Great Waldo Search — About this game

The Great Waldo Search turns Martin Handford-style picture hunting into a timed NES search game. Wizard Whitebeard has lost five magic scrolls across the Realms of Enchantment, and players scan wide animated scenes with a magnifying glass to locate Waldo, each required scroll, clocks, score markers, and the optional Woof. Normal and Expert modes offer the same targets at different apparent scales, while Expert also adds clue challenges triggered by consecutive clocks. Clearing the first four selectable realms opens the difficult Land of the Waldos finale, and finding Woof launches a flying-carpet bonus round.
