How to Play The Karate Kid
Quick start
Press START to reach the mode screen, select 1 PLAYER with SELECT and start the game. Beat the tournament’s four opponents to reach the scrolling stages. Left/right move, up jumps and down crouches; A punches and B kicks. Keep a direction held for ordinary attacks so you do not accidentally spend a special technique. When you need one and have stock, release the directional pad: A uses a Drum Punch and B a Crane Kick. In Okinawa, advance carefully to the right and jump into suitable background doorways to attempt bonus training.
Controls
Directional pad: left/right move, up jumps, down crouches; upper diagonals jump to the side. A: ordinary punch with directional input. B: ordinary kick with directional input. With the pad released and special stock available, A performs a Drum Punch and B a Crane Kick. Up+A/B gives a jumping attack; down+A/B gives a crouching attack. SELECT chooses the game mode; START starts/pauses. Bonus games use A or B for their timed actions.
The Karate Kid — About this game
The Karate Kid begins with a four-opponent tournament before turning into a side-scrolling martial-arts adventure through Okinawa. Daniel must handle enemy fighters, dangerous jumps and a typhoon on the way to the final confrontation with Chozen. Ordinary punches and kicks can be combined with jumping or crouching, while stocked Drum Punches and Crane Kicks provide stronger attacks. These limited techniques are replenished through letter pickups and bonus challenges, so saving them for difficult encounters helps. Background doorways can lead to training games involving chopsticks, ice blocks or a swinging hammer, each rewarding timing rather than simply pressing faster. Alongside the regular adventure, a separate ONE-ON-ONE mode lets two players fight as Daniel and Chozen without special techniques.
