How to Play The Legend of Prince Valiant
Quick start
In levels 1, 3 and 5, move with Left and Right, jump with A and throw a dagger with B. Use Up to enter a doorway and Down to leave through one, and learn the maze before the timer becomes a problem. Level 2 is different: move the aiming point with the D-pad and fire arrows with A. In level 4, hold B with Left or Right to select one of the six cannons, use Left or Right without B for fine horizontal aim, move the range markers with Up or Down, then fire with A. START pauses in the action stages; while paused, SELECT changes options and A+B quits, so avoid pressing both action buttons accidentally.

Levels 1, 3 and 5 — D-pad Left/Right: run; Up: enter a room through a door; Down: duck or exit a room; A: jump; B: throw a dagger; START: pause; SELECT while paused: change options. Level 2 — D-pad: move the aiming point; A: fire arrows; START: pause; SELECT while paused: change options. Level 4 — A: fire a cannon; B+Left/Right: select the adjacent cannon; Left/Right: fine horizontal adjustment; Up/Down: move the range cross-hairs. While paused — A+B: quit; START: continue.
The Legend of Prince Valiant — About this game
The Legend of Prince Valiant is a PAL-exclusive NES action game that follows the young prince on his journey to Camelot. Its five stages alternate between side-view exploration and first-person shooting. Valiant crosses dangerous outdoor routes and underground corridors, searches rooms, avoids traps and throws daggers in levels 1, 3 and 5. Level 2 turns the D-pad into a targeting control for a bow, while level 4 puts six shipboard cannons under the player’s command during a naval battle. The quest centres on recovering the Viking Ring of Peace, crossing the stormy sea and proving Valiant worthy of training for King Arthur’s Round Table.
