How to Play Schlümpfe, Die

Quick start

In the first section of the forest, practice short and high jumps: press A briefly or hold it longer. Left/Right moves you, B also accelerates during a jump. In front of wide gaps, wait for a favorable platform or a suitable distance from the enemy. Collect raspberries when hearts are missing. Stand next to a feather or key and press Down+B to pick it up; with B or down you put the item down again.

Controls

Left/Right: walk and steer in the air. Below: duck. A: jump; holding it longer gives more height. A increases the jump on a spring. B: move faster, even sideways in the air, without making the jump higher. Bottom+B: Pick up an object, such as a feather, key or gift box. B or Down: put down worn item. In the stork flight passage you steer with the control pad and avoid birds and lightning. Aggressive Smurfs cannot be defeated simply by jumping on them.

Schlümpfe, Die — About this game

In The Smurfs, rescuing friends takes you to Gargamel and Smurfette. The NES version combines normal jumping passages with special sections, including a river trip and a flight on a stork. In the forest you avoid nuts, flies and aggressive Smurfs; Later, moving platforms, correctly placed springs and items taken with you count. Keys open the way to prisoners, while explosive gift boxes help against certain enemies. Not every opponent can be safely hit from above. Sarsaparilla leaves, stars and raspberries reward detours; Raspberries restore a heart and 25 leaves provide an additional life. At the same time, time is running out, so exploration and rapid progress have to be balanced against each other.
