Press START at the title screen and begin a new game. Episode 1, Suite Escape, starts with Zack and Cody grounded in their hotel suite while trying to reach their 4 o'clock ice cream; take control of Zack, pick up the key card in the opening room and use it to unlock the exit. From there, search each Tipton room for cards and puzzle items, avoid guards, dogs and Mr. Moseby, and switch brothers whenever an obstacle suits the other twin. Zack handles climbing, pushing, carrying and water balloons, while Cody's vacuum and gadgets solve his assigned puzzles; if a large object will not move, bring both boys together.

Use the Control Pad to walk through the hotel, steer during races and move the balance marker in the disguise sequence. A and B operate the active brother's contextual actions; with Zack, B throws a water balloon. Use the shoulder button indicated by the game to switch between Zack and Cody, then try the newly active brother at color-marked or character-specific objects. START pauses normal play. The accessible GBA sources do not identify a dependable separate SELECT function or state whether the switch is always L or R, so neither is invented here.
