How to Play Untouchables, The
Quick start
Press START at the title and again at each section. Read the status display before moving: it shows time, the current objective, ammunition, character and energy. In most scenes, move or aim with the D-pad and fire with either A or B. Alley pistols hold only two rounds, so duck behind cover to reload; in the border and alley sections, press SELECT to rotate injured agents out and let them recover. The warehouse is the exception: B jumps and A fires, so collect dropped ammunition and ledger pages without wasting shots. Protect civilians and the baby carriage, then practise the hostage scene if possible because Stone receives only one shot at the gunman’s hat.
Controls
D-pad: move the character or aiming cursor in all four directions, depending on the section. A and B: fire in every section except the Warehouse Bust; there, A fires and B jumps. START: begin the game or current section; during play, pause and resume. SELECT at the title: choose music or sound effects. SELECT during the Border Raid and Alleyway Shootout: switch among Ness, Malone, Stone and Wallace so unused agents can recover energy.
Untouchables, The — About this game
The Untouchables is a seven-section NES action game inspired by the film’s war against Al Capone. Its scenes change style frequently: clear gunmen from alleys with a two-shot pistol, destroy contraband at the Canadian border, explore a warehouse for ledger pages, escort a baby carriage through the train station, save a hostage with one precise shot, and chase Frank Nitti across the courthouse roof. Ness, Malone, Stone and Wallace have separate energy reserves in selected firefights, and inactive agents recover over time. Evidence, ammunition, objectives and strict timers appear on the status line, while losing a character needed for a later scene can end the entire campaign.
