How to Play Time Hollow
Quick start
Start a new game and examine Ethan's bedroom, including Sox, the bed, television, window, floor, bin, both bookcases and desk. Tap an object, then its action icon, and follow the lesson for leaving the room. Continue the prologue until the altered situation and flashbacks appear. At the school's rubbish area, follow the Hollow Pen tutorial: confirm the required memory, choose to use the pen and draw around the indicated part of the scene.
Controls
DS: tap an object or person, then tap the displayed hand or speech icon to examine or talk. A confirms or advances text; B goes back or leaves a location when available. D-pad left/right or stylus dragging pans the scene; X opens the system menu. In a permitted pen scene, draw a circle with the stylus over the target area, interact through the opening and close it after the change.
Time Hollow — About this game
Time Hollow follows Ethan as a familiar life changes around him and memories no longer agree with the world he sees. Conversation and careful inspection supply the title, time, place and circumstances needed to confirm a flashback. Only then can the Hollow Pen open the relevant view of the past, where a small intervention changes what happens next. Drawing a hole is therefore the result of investigation, not a way to skip it. Pen energy is limited, so aim at the area shown by the confirmed memory rather than opening holes at random. The resulting changes give familiar locations and people a new role as Ethan searches for his missing parents.
