Press START at the title screen, choose New Game, set the difficulty on Rule Select, then choose one of the seven partners on Partner Select. The opening nightmare begins in Acme Forest: move to the right and defeat every enemy wave to unlock the next section rather than trying to run past the group. Build the green meter by keeping Buster's normal combo going, knock one foe into another for extra damage, and call your partner only when there is room for them to act because Buster and the helper have separate health bars. Save the meter-costing shopping-cart or jackhammer move for a crowded screen or a dangerous enemy.

Use the D-Pad to move and crouch; press a direction twice to run. B attacks with Buster's boxing gloves: Forward+B after the first combo hit delivers a launching jab, Down+B is a ground uppercut, Down then Forward+B performs the one-meter shopping-cart rush, and Down, Down+B performs the one-meter jackhammer. A jumps; the Rule Select control option can instead assign jump to Up on the D-Pad. R calls the selected partner, with directional or repeated R inputs producing that character's other confirmed assist moves when enough green meter is available. START pauses the action. L and SELECT have no confirmed normal-gameplay function in the available GBA documentation.
