How to Play Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Quick start
Choose Half-pipe to learn the air tricks, then select a skater and course and press START. Press Left or Right in your direction of travel to build momentum. Once comfortable landing, try Tournament and balance racing position with tricks and videotapes; record its password before leaving.
Controls
Menus: D-pad to choose, A or START to confirm. Courses: Left/Right steer, A jumps and B powerslides; B while turning tightens the turn. Double-tap Up for a burst when you have a speed power-up. Half-pipe: Left/Right pump with your movement; airborne A rotates, and directions with A or B select tricks.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater — About this game
This handheld entry offers two distinct ways to skate. Tournament events combine finishing position, successful tricks and collected videotapes, so the quickest route is not always the highest-scoring one. Half-pipe sessions focus on pumping up the walls and completing combinations before landing; repeating the same trick reduces its value. A separate race against the computer rewards reaching the finish first. Different skaters have their own strengths, and tournament passwords let you return to a run later.
