How to Play Turok: Evolution

Quick start

From the title menu, start a one-player game, choose Normal or Pro difficulty, then select Tal'Set or Djunn. Normal is the recommended first run; Pro leaves the stages unchanged but makes enemies tougher and more aggressive. Your opening stage is The Battlefields 1.1a: push through Soldiers, Raptors and Pterodactyls, collect the Sub-machine Gun and armour pickups, and reach the end of the battlefield. Hold fire instead of merely tapping it when you need automatic fire or eight-direction aiming, and defeat quickly respawning enemies several times before advancing so they stop crowding the screen. Djunn's Energy Hook is stronger than Tal'Set's Axe and can swing from ceilings; in the first area, fire it upwards and time a jump onto the first building's roof to find 100% Armour. There is no cartridge save: record both password lines awarded after each cleared stage, because one restores the character/level and the other restores inventory. Use the Password choice from the title menu to continue later.

Controls

Menus: use the D-Pad to highlight choices, A to confirm and B to go back; START pauses during play. Side-scrolling stages: D-Pad Left/Right moves, Up/Down climbs, crouches or changes aim as the terrain allows; A jumps; B fires or swings the equipped weapon. Hold B while aiming with the D-Pad for automatic fire in eight directions. When standing still with Tal'Set's Axe or Djunn's Energy Hook, hold B to charge an Axe Throw or Hook Blast; fire Djunn's hook upwards, then jump, to swing from a ceiling. L and R cycle backwards and forwards through carried weapons. SELECT toggles a standard weapon and its collected alien counterpart. Press L+R together to spend a Guardian Angel charge, briefly stop time and strike every enemy on screen. Boss stages use a gallery-shooter view: move the crosshair with the D-Pad, fire with B and use A to jump aside; jumping temporarily locks the crosshair so shots can stay on the target while you evade.
