Press START, begin a new story and choose Issue 1: Small Time, Chapter 1 on the level screen. The opening objective is to get rid of the thugs taking over Queens: follow the route markers, close the distance and use B attacks to defeat the gang. Use A to jump and press A again in the air to web-swing across gaps. Strike spider emblems with B for reserve web fluid or move hints, and look for the extra web-fluid container early in the chapter. Save web for traversal and binding instead of spending it all on the first enemies.

Spider-Man: D-pad moves; A jumps and, in the air, web-swings; B punches, with B then B for a combo; L binds an enemy with web; R kicks, with R then R for a combo; START opens the menu. Jumping onto a wall or ceiling makes Spider-Man cling and crawl. L + Up + A webs up to a ceiling, Up + B performs an uppercut, Up + R a reverse kick, and L + R launches the large web attack. Venom: D-pad moves, A jumps, B attacks with a tendril, L grapples and repeated presses pull him towards a wall, R lashes or stuns; when a weakened enemy's bar changes colour and shows the R prompt, R feeds to restore health. Venom also has L + Up + A ceiling grapple, Up + B body saw, and Down + B in the air for a ground slam. START opens the menu; no unsupported action is assigned to SELECT.
