At the title screen, press START to open the Main Menu, choose NEW GAME, and follow Addie into the opening party. Your first practical goal is to move through the party and find Jake: walk right and press B beside people to talk, using A to jump over anything in the way. The opening also teaches the Practice Makes Perfect guitar mini-game; press A to begin, then hit the direction shown on the D-Pad when the note reaches the marker. Missing five notes ends the attempt, so follow the timing prompt rather than pressing early. If you lose track of the current task later, press SELECT to open Addie's cell phone. CONTINUE loads an existing game, while ARCADE jumps directly to mini-games already found during the story.

Main adventure: the D-Pad moves Addie left or right, ducks, and enters rooms; A jumps; B interacts with items and talks to characters. Hold Left or Right on the D-Pad together with B to run. START begins the game from the title screen and opens the Pause Menu during play. SELECT opens Addie's cell phone; inside the phone, A selects and B exits. In the opening Practice Makes Perfect guitar mini-game, A starts the round and the D-Pad presses the displayed note direction at the correct time. The manual assigns no general L- or R-button action, so none is claimed here.
