How to Play Pro Sport Hockey
Quick start
Press START at the title, highlight EXHIBITION with the Control Pad, and confirm with A. Choose 1P versus COM, select the teams, then finish the setup screen through EXIT to begin. Skate with the Control Pad, pass to a nearby teammate with B, and shoot with A. Use TRAINING to practice attacking or controlling the goalie. For the championship, choose SUPER CUP and NEW GAME; use PASSWORD to resume a previous run.
Controls
Control Pad: skate and navigate menus. With the puck, A shoots; hold it for a stronger shot. B passes to the nearest teammate. On defense, A makes a body or stick check depending on your distance from the opponent; B switches control to the player nearest the puck. With manual goalie control selected, use the Control Pad to move within the crease. START pauses the match; A while paused opens team setup. A confirms menu choices; B cancels. During a shootout attack, steer left/right while the skater advances automatically, then shoot with A. In a fight, A jabs (hold for a straight punch), B makes a body uppercut, left/right moves, up guards high, and down guards low.
Pro Sport Hockey — About this game
Jaleco's Famicom hockey game puts you on a vertically scrolling rink, moving the puck between nearby teammates and charging shots to beat the goalie. On defense, switch to the player nearest the puck and use body or stick checks to recover possession. The Japanese Super Cup starts with round-robin group qualifiers before sixteen selected teams enter a knockout tournament. Exhibition offers a single match against the computer or a second player, while Training lets you practice shooting and goaltending. Player attributes and offensive and defensive formations give you options beyond simply chasing the puck. Adjust period length and rule settings to suit your pace, and keep the tournament password to continue later. Fights move to a separate screen, where punches and high or low guards determine the outcome.
