How to Play USA Today - Crossword Challenge
Quick start
Touch the title screen, choose New Game and select a puzzle. Tap a cell and read its clue; tap it again to switch between across and down. Enter a short answer with the pen using handwriting or the keyboard. Use crossing letters for the next word, revise pencil guesses before finishing, and choose Menu then Save before leaving.
Controls
Tap grid cells and write in the handwriting area, or tap letters on the keyboard. Use pen, pencil and eraser icons for final, tentative and deleted entries; undo and redo revisit edits. D-pad moves selection, L/R steps to the previous/next clue, A selects menus, B returns and START pauses. Each revealed hint letter adds one minute and cannot be erased or undone.

USA Today - Crossword Challenge turns newspaper grids into a DS puzzle desk. Clues appear above while the lower screen holds the grid, writing space and tools. Write letters by hand or open the keyboard, then use crossing answers to check a difficult word. The pen records final entries, the pencil keeps tentative guesses and the eraser removes letters; a grid containing pencil answers is not finished. Hints reveal individual letters at a one-minute cost, and optional immediate error spotting adds thirty seconds for a detected mistake. Save from the in-game menu and return through Resume Game, so you can leave an unfinished puzzle and continue later.
