How to Play Wacky Races
Quick start
Press START, then learn movement and jumping with the D-pad and A button. With no weapon equipped, B performs Muttley's short-range bite; once an item is equipped, B uses it instead. Each bone moves the arrow through the item window, so press SELECT when it reaches the reward you want or keep collecting bones to advance farther. Conserve hearts and mobility items for difficult sections, and gather diamonds whenever safe because 100 diamonds grant an extra life.
Controls
D-pad Left/Right: move. D-pad Down: crouch. A: jump. B: bite when no weapon is equipped, or use the currently equipped bomb, sonic bark, or other usable item. SELECT: claim the item currently highlighted by the arrow in the item window. START: begin the game; during play, pause and resume.
Wacky Races — About this game
Wacky Races for NES is a side-scrolling platform game rather than a conventional racing game. You control Muttley across courses in the Hip Hop, Splish Splash, and Go Go America regions, avoiding traps and defeating enemies until every area is cleared. Collecting bones advances an arrow through the item window, letting you claim a bomb, a projectile bark, wings, or a heart when the desired item is highlighted. Diamonds award an extra life at 100, while the status display also tracks lives, health, and remaining time. Choosing when to cash in bones and when to save a useful item is central to surviving the later courses.
