How to Play Wakusei Aton Gaiden

Quick start

Select "Play Alone" or "Play Together" on the title screen. Use the cross button to move your spaceship, and hold A to fire continuously to defeat enemies. If you get hit by a bullet, you will lose 100 points and it will become a single bullet and move slower, so it is important to use repair items to return it to its initial state. Shields block enemy bullets for a certain period of time, and bombs wipe out enemies on the screen. When you defeat the quizzer bouncing at the top of the screen, a three-choice quiz will begin, so move to the missile numbered 1-3 that corresponds to your answer and shoot it with A. After about 8 minutes, defeat the next quizzer and proceed to tally your score.

Controls

Cross button: Move the spaceship up/down/left/right. A: Fires bullets (hold down to fire continuously). On the quiz screen, answer by shooting the missile with the number you think is correct. B/START/SELECT: No function during play. There is also no pause function. In two-player play, each player uses a corresponding controller.

Wakusei Aton Gaiden — About this game

"Planet Aton Gaiden" is an educational shooting game for the Famicom Disk System produced by the National Tax Agency for the 1990 "Tax Week". Kanta and Yuri set off on a spaceship to save the planet Aton from the Quiz King, who stole top-secret financial resources and tax documents. In normal situations, you accumulate points by defeating enemies, and when you defeat the quizzer, you move on to three-choice questions about taxes and the Japanese economy. It is a unique answer method where you shoot the missile with the number you think is correct, and if you answer correctly, you will receive points, and if you answer incorrectly or get hit, you will lose points. The game is designed to aim for a high score until your own aircraft is shot down and the score is tallied after a certain period of time, and it also supports simultaneous play by two people.
