How to Play Widget

Quick start

Press START to begin, then use the D-pad to move, A to jump, and B to shoot. Clear the opening stage before choosing among the next three missions. Press SELECT whenever a route calls for a different ability: Cannon costs 2 MP, Mouse 3, Rock-Man 4, Bird-Man 3, and Dolphin 3. Preserve MP for required terrain rather than transforming for every enemy. Mouse is useful for speed and tight gaps, Rock-Man for breakable rock, Bird-Man for long or dangerous crossings, and Dolphin for water. Choose Mega Brain from the same menu for free hints or the map; its quit option can leave a stage when a run is going badly.

Controls

D-pad: move Widget. A: jump. B: shoot. START: pause. SELECT: open the transformation menu. In that menu, choose Mega Brain for advice, map, or quit, or select an unlocked form by spending MP. Cannon Widget can jump and fire but cannot walk; Mouse Widget runs quickly and cannot attack; Rock-Man moves slowly, jumps low, and can punch through some rocks; Bird-Man flies for a limited time; Dolphin Widget swims.

Widget — About this game

Widget is a single-player NES platform adventure based on the animated series. The smiling purple alien is sent to protect Earth and other worlds from Mega Slank, Bizarre Brain, Dr. Dante, Flim Flam, Ratchet, and an evil twin. Ordinary play combines running, jumping, and pellet fire, but progress also depends on transformations powered by a limited MP supply. Cannon Widget delivers strong shots, Mouse Widget slips through low passages, Rock-Man breaks cracked obstacles, Bird-Man crosses difficult gaps, and Dolphin Widget handles underwater routes. After the opening stage, the middle missions can be approached in a chosen order, so unlocking the right form and revisiting routes can reveal upgrades or safer paths. The transformation menu also includes Mega Brain, who costs no MP and can show advice, a map, or an option to leave the current stage.
