How to Play Winter Games

Quick start

Choose Practice Events first and learn one discipline at a time. In Hot Dog Aerials press A to start, then use left or right for flips and diagonals for ski-position tricks. For speed skating, alternate left and right rapidly and evenly. In figure skating, combine a direction with A to initiate a move; press A again while descending to land a jump, and keep moving between tricks. In bobsled, tap left or right to steer into the course and press down only when a turn requires less speed. Once each event feels consistent, choose Compete In All Events for the complete one- or two-player program.

Controls

Menus use the D-pad to choose options and A to confirm. Hot Dog Aerials: A starts the run; Right performs a forward flip, Left a backward flip, and diagonal directions perform ski-position tricks; B is unused. Speed Skating: alternate Left and Right rapidly. Figure Skating: Up+Right+A double Axel, Down+Right+A triple Axel, Up+Left+A double Lutz, Down+Left+A triple Lutz, Up+A camel spin, Down+A sit spin, Right+A skate forward, Left+A skate backward; press A while descending to land jumps. Bobsled: Left/Right steer and Down slows; other inputs are unused during the run.

Winter Games — About this game

Winter Games brings a compact four-event international sports meet to NES. After the opening ceremony, one or two players choose a country and can compete through every event, select a single contest, practice freely, or review saved world records. Hot Dog Aerials scores flips and ski-position tricks over three jumps; speed skating rewards a fast alternating rhythm; figure skating asks for precise directional combinations and correctly timed landings during a one-minute routine; and bobsled tests careful steering through banked turns while the course display and speed readout track the run. Each discipline uses a deliberately different control method, so practice mode is the best place to learn the inputs before committing to the full medal program.
