How to Play Top Players' Tennis
Quick start
Choose singles and distribute the initial 20 bonus points, favoring speed, technique, and stamina for an easier first tournament. Move under the bounce with the D-pad, use A for a low groundstroke, and use B when a high defensive lob is safer. Toss a serve with either face button, then hit A for the fast serve or B for the slower one. Hold Up with a hit for topspin, Down for slice, or Left/Right to curve the ball. Near the net, get beneath a high ball and press A+B for a jumping volley or smash. Once special-shot ability rises, combine A+B with a direction, but maintain court position instead of forcing the move on every return.
Controls
D-pad: move, navigate menus, aim, and add spin. A: toss, fast serve, groundstroke, and confirm. B: toss, slow serve, lob, and undo an ability-point allocation. A+B: jumping volley or smash. A+B+Left/Right: dive left/right. While hitting, Up adds topspin, Down slice, and Left/Right lateral curve. SELECT pauses when the ball is not in play and selects a doubles tournament. START begins from the title and confirms mode settings. Special shots: A+B super-fast ball; add Up for vacuum shot, Down for ceiling lob, Left/Right for spinning shot, or Up-diagonal for duplicate-ball shot.
Top Players' Tennis — About this game
World Super Tennis combines arcade-style matches with player development on NES. Its roster includes Ivan Lendl and Chris Evert, and the singles growth mode awards bonus points that can improve power, speed, agility, stamina, technique, spin, concentration, and special-shot ability. The first season opens three tournaments including Japan; later seasons expand to four overseas events, with a four-title Grand Slam as the long-term objective. Regular play uses A for a groundstroke and B for a lob, while the D-pad changes placement and applies topspin, slice, or lateral curve. Pressing A and B together produces a jumping volley or smash, and higher special-shot levels unlock a super-fast ball, vacuum shot, ceiling lob, spinning shot, and duplicate-ball shot. Doubles and head-to-head modes provide alternatives to the career-like singles tour.
