How to Play WWF WrestleMania

Quick start

Begin with a single-player bout and choose a strong all-round wrestler such as Hulk Hogan. Use the D-pad to maintain space, hold A with a direction to run, and test A and B at standing, running, and turnbuckle range because their effects differ by character. When an opponent is down, use your wrestler’s documented pin command rather than assuming one universal button. Avoid being trapped against the ropes, where repeated attacks are difficult to escape. Watch the top of the ring for the selected wrestler’s personal item and collect it to restore strength. After learning one complete move set, enter the tournament and rely on safe strikes before attempting slower slams or aerial attacks.

Controls

D-pad: move the wrestler, change the highlighted wrestler, and combine with attacks. A: choose letters and select a wrestler; in a match it performs that character’s primary strike. Hold A plus a direction to run. B near a turnbuckle climbs it; in normal play it performs the wrestler’s secondary attack. A+B and directional sequences trigger character-specific back attacks, slams, headbutts, pins, and other moves as listed in the manual. START begins, pauses, resumes, or displays a CPU match. SELECT chooses player count or game type and can skip a non-player match.

WWF WrestleMania — About this game

WWF WrestleMania is the first WWF-licensed wrestling game for NES. Its six-wrestler roster features Hulk Hogan, André the Giant, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase, Bam Bam Bigelow, and the Honky Tonk Man. Players can arrange a direct one-on-one match or enter a tournament and work toward the title, with a second controller supporting head-to-head competition. The shared foundation is simple—move freely around the ring, attack with A or B, run by holding a direction with A, and climb a turnbuckle with B when positioned beside it—but every wrestler assigns different punches, kicks, slams, headbutts, aerial moves, pins, and back attacks to combinations. Character-specific objects occasionally cross the top of the ring and restore strength only to their matching wrestler, making positioning and recognition part of the bout.
