How to Play Yoshi's Cookie

Quick start

Choose 1P or VS, set the round or handicap and speed, then press START. Move the cursor onto a useful row or column, hold A, and press a direction to rotate that whole line. Because rows and columns wrap around, plan matches across both edges of the field. In 1P, create short matches early to keep the top and right sides from filling, then save wild Yoshi Cookies for awkward shapes or chains. B accelerates the next cookie addition, so use it only when the board is organised. In VS, watch the displayed effect before completing a Yoshi Cookie line; some effects help the opponent or punish you instead.

Controls

D-pad: move the cursor through the cookie field. Hold A and press Up/Down to rotate the cursor’s column, or Left/Right to rotate its row; pieces wrap around the opposite edge. B: speed up the next cookie addition in one-player mode. START: open the menu, begin the game, and pause or resume during play. On the title screen, D-pad or SELECT chooses 1P or VS. On menus, Up/Down selects an item and Left/Right changes round, speed, music, time speed, or handicap. One player uses Controller I; versus uses Controllers I and II.

Yoshi's Cookie — About this game

Yoshi's Cookie is an action puzzle game where six cookie designs fill a rectangular grid. Move the cursor to any cookie, hold A, and press a direction to rotate its entire row or column; pieces wrap from one edge to the other. A full horizontal or vertical line of one design disappears, while new cookies are added over time. In the one-player game, ordinary shapes and wild Yoshi Cookies must be arranged until the board is empty; clearing ten stages advances to the next round, and longer or chained lines score more. The two-player versus game uses a fixed 5-by-5 field, a point gauge, and a time gauge. Matching a line of Yoshi Cookies activates the effect currently displayed above the field, which may alter points, scramble or hide cookies, or temporarily copy the opponent’s movement, so timing the special match matters.
