How to Play Yoshi’s Island DS
Quick start
Press A or START, choose an empty file and select ADVENTURE. Complete the practice stage with Baby Mario before selecting stage 1-1 on the world map. Use B to jump and hold it to flutter, Y to swallow an enemy and Down to make an egg. In the PATIENT throw mode, press A to aim and again to throw. If the baby is hit loose, touch it with Yoshi before the timer expires. Other babies become available later; progress saves after clearing stages.
Controls
ABXY layout: D-pad moves; B jumps, hold for a flutter jump, Down in the air ground-pounds. Y uses the tongue or spits an enemy; Down with an enemy in the mouth makes an egg. A/R aims and throws eggs: PATIENT presses once to aim and again to throw; HASTY holds then releases. X/L locks the aim; X/L + Up/Down scrolls the screens. START pauses. Options lets you change the scheme.
Yoshi’s Island DS — About this game
Yoshi carries babies through platforming stages spread vertically across both DS screens. Swallow enemies to make eggs, aim throws at switches and use the flutter jump to cross gaps while watching for hazards above and below. If a baby is knocked loose, retrieve it before the star timer runs out. Baby Mario supports dashing at the beginning; other babies join as the adventure progresses, adding abilities such as riding winds or swinging on vines. Stork Stops let you switch among available babies to suit the route. Red coins, flowers and stars add a collection challenge beyond simply reaching each goal, and bosses punctuate the journey to rescue Baby Luigi.
