How to Play Zanac

Quick start

Press START and keep the B-button conventional gun active while learning the first area. Move in small steps rather than sweeping across the screen, and destroy Boxes to collect Power Chips for the main gun. Numbered items replace the A-button special weapon; repeated copies of the same number can upgrade it, while a different number immediately changes the weapon. The default Fire 0 is flexible because it can shoot in the direction you steer, and Fire 7 offers strong rapid forward fire when available. At a fortress, focus on its vulnerable parts before the displayed timer expires. Use the brief flashing invulnerability after a power-up pickup to pass through immediate danger, but do not chase every item into enemy fire.

Controls

D-pad: move the Zanac fighter in eight directions. B: fire the conventional weapon. A: fire the currently equipped special weapon. START: begin the game; during play, pause and resume. SELECT: on the title screen, choose Game Start or Continue; it has no normal in-game function. Controller I is used for this one-player game. Power Chips upgrade the conventional gun. Numbered 0–7 pickups select a special weapon, and collecting the same number repeatedly may strengthen it.

Zanac — About this game

Zanac is a one-player vertical shooter built around speed, two independent weapon systems, and adaptive opposition. The B button fires a conventional gun that grows from a single missile through stronger patterns by collecting Power Chips. The A button fires one of eight numbered special weapons; picking up a different number switches weapons, while repeated copies can strengthen the current one. Across 12 areas, the Zanac fighter destroys airborne formations, ground targets, reconnaissance craft, and timed fortresses before confronting the System’s central bases. Its Automatic Level of Difficulty Control reacts to the player’s behaviour and changes enemy pressure, so firing constantly, collecting power-ups, destroying scouts, and losing ships can all affect the rhythm of a run. Newly deployed ships and power-up pickups flash with brief invulnerability, creating tactical opportunities in dense attacks.
