How to Play All-Pro Basketball

Quick start

Choose one- or two-player tournament play and select a team. On offense, move into open space and use A to pass before defenders crowd the ball handler. To shoot, press B once to jump and B again to release; near the basket this can produce a reliable dunk, while a missing second press causes traveling. Take a step after receiving a pass before passing again to avoid rushed turnovers. On defense, press A to switch toward the ball and attempt a steal when already close; use B to jump only when a shot is rising, because late contact can cause goaltending or fouls. Record the password displayed after a game if you want to resume the tournament later.

Controls

D-pad: move the selected player; on menus, move the option cursor. Offense — A: pass. B: press once to jump, then press again to release the shot; omitting the second press causes traveling. Defense — A: switch to the defender closest to the ball handler, or attempt a steal when already controlling that defender. B: jump to contest, block, or rebound. Free throw — press B when the moving basket image aligns with the real basket. START: pause during play. Menu A confirms and B cancels; SELECT has no normal game function.

All-Pro Basketball — About this game

All-Pro Basketball is a five-on-five NES basketball game shown from behind the offense on a vertically scrolling full court. Eight fictional city teams compete with twelve-player rosters, and the action includes jump balls, passing, jump shots, three-pointers, dunks, steals, rebounds, free throws, fatigue, fouls, and common timing violations. Offense uses A to pass and a two-step B input to jump and release a shot; failing to press B again after jumping is called traveling. On defense, A either switches to the defender closest to the ball or attempts a steal, while B jumps to contest shots and rebounds. One player can take a team through tournament play, while the two-player league option places both players on the same side against computer teams. A password shown after games lets the tournament continue in a later session.
