How to Play 1943: The Battle of Midway
Quick start
Choose a new game and spend the three opening upgrade points among the five aircraft statistics. A modest investment in offense and energy makes the first missions easier to learn. Shoot regular enemies, reveal and collect upgrade icons, and preserve energy for the fleet target at the end of the stage. Reach at least 70 percent destruction on the flagship to clear the encounter. Record the password shown between missions so the campaign can be resumed later.
Controls
D-pad: move in eight directions. B: fire; hold and release B to launch the charged laser. A: use Mega Crash, damaging enemies and clearing bullets at an energy cost. A+B together: perform a limited-use loop that makes the aircraft temporarily invulnerable.
1943: The Battle of Midway — About this game
1943: The Battle of Valhalla is the Japanese NES edition of Capcom's vertically scrolling shooter. This console adaptation is substantially expanded from the arcade game: it is a single-player, 24-stage campaign with a password system and upgradeable offense, defense, energy, special weapon, and weapon-duration statistics. Energy serves as both health and a resource that drains over time or when Mega Crash is used. Each mission moves from an aerial run into a fleet encounter, while hidden upgrade items, timed weapons, a chargeable laser, and a limited evasive loop reward careful resource management rather than constant firing alone.
