How to Play 1943: The Battle of Midway
Quick start
Select New Game and distribute the three available points among offense, defense, energy, special weapon, and special-weapon duration. For an accessible opening, improve offense and energy before entering Mission 1. Collect weapon timers and recovery icons, avoid collisions with large enemies, and save Mega Crash for dense bullet patterns. The fleet fight is not cleared until enough of the flagship is destroyed, so keep firing on its vulnerable sections. Write down each between-stage password for your next session.
Controls
D-pad: move in eight directions. B: fire the main weapon; hold B until the cue, then release for the powerful charged laser. A: trigger Mega Crash, which attacks enemies and clears bullets while consuming energy. A+B together: execute a limited-use loop with temporary invulnerability.
1943: The Battle of Midway — About this game
1943: The Battle of Midway is Capcom's single-player NES adaptation of the vertical arcade shooter. The console version adds 24 missions, a five-character password system, and five aircraft attributes that can be raised with starting points and hidden icons. Your P-38's energy is both its life reserve and a steadily decreasing timer, while Mega Crash consumes more of it to clear danger. Missions combine scrolling air combat with a fleet target, and the selectable timed weapons, charge laser, side fighters, and limited invulnerable loop make survival depend on upgrade choices and disciplined energy use.
