Select Single Player on the main menu to begin the first stage; the Password option is for returning to stages you have already unlocked, while Link-up only offers stages for which a password is available. In the stage, use R whenever you stand beside an object or switch that can be collected or activated, and press SELECT to check your current statistics. Cycle weapons with L: the starting machine gun fires quickly but is weak, while holding A charges the electric rod for close targets. After clearing a level, write down its six-digit password because inventory does not carry between stages.

D-pad moves the character in the isometric environment. A uses the currently selected weapon; hold A to charge the electric rod. B jumps. L switches to the next weapon. R activates switches and other usable objects or picks up an item. SELECT displays the current statistics, and START pauses the game. In menus, choose Single Player for the campaign, Password to enter a stage code, Link-up for multiplayer stages already unlocked by password, or Options to adjust gamma, sound, and music.
