How to Play Ultimate Air Combat
Quick start
Select START and choose one of the four available missions. For an uncomplicated first sortie, accept the aircraft already highlighted and choose AUTO ARM at the loadout screen. In the opening dogfight, use the A-button Vulcan cannon and save limited missiles unless an enemy stays out of gun range. Ground attack begins automatically after the fighters are destroyed. Switch to the correct air-to-ground weapon, wait until the white reticle overlaps the assigned target, and fire one careful shot. Ignore optional defenses when ammunition is tight.
Controls
The D-pad navigates menus and steers the aircraft. Select cycles the current weapon; B fires that selected missile or bomb, while A fires the Vulcan cannon. Press A+B together to deploy chaff against incoming missiles. Start accepts menu selections and pauses or resumes a mission. On the loadout screen, Left/Right cycles equipment and AUTO ARM automatically fits the mission's recommended weapons.
Ultimate Air Combat — About this game
Aces: Iron Eagle III is a single-player Famicom flight-combat game that is substantially the same as Ultimate Air Combat apart from language. Choose an F/A-18, AV-8 Harrier, or F-14, equip mission-specific missiles and bombs, then complete a two-part sortie: defeat enemy fighters in a first-person dogfight and follow with a top-down strike against designated buildings, ships, bridges, or artillery. Missions arrive in groups of four; clearing a group unlocks aircraft upgrades and the next set, while passwords preserve campaign progress.
