How to Play Adventures of Tom Sawyer
Quick start
Select the player count and begin by keeping Tom left of center so upcoming platforms remain visible. Tap B continually to clear small enemies and press A before reaching a ledge rather than at its edge. The slingshot pickup is worth protecting because its faster long-range rocks reduce close encounters. Take safe T signs and work toward the twenty needed for an extra life, but route around skulls. In the Mississippi sections, the D-Pad also moves the raft up and down; stay away from whirlpools even when a collectible seems to invite a risky line.
Controls
D-Pad Left/Right moves; Up/Down controls the raft on river stages and climbs ladders. A makes Tom or Huck jump. B throws rocks and fires the upgraded slingshot. Start begins the game and pauses/resumes play. Select or Start can confirm the number of players and start/continue menu choices. Two-player games alternate characters and compare stage times.
Adventures of Tom Sawyer — About this game
In The Adventures of Tom Sawyer for NES, Tom falls asleep in class and imagines a dangerous voyage packed with animals, pirates, caves and river hazards. Most stages scroll sideways, but raft sequences allow vertical movement and some areas add ladders. B launches Tom's supply of rocks, while the slingshot pickup extends range and improves firing speed. T signs function as a life-building collectible: twenty earn an extra Tom, but skulls subtract ten. The optional two-player contest gives Tom and Huckleberry separate runs, comparing their finishing times instead of offering simultaneous play.
