How to Play Race America, Alex DeMeo's
Quick start
Select one or two racers, enter your name, and pick an opponent. Before the drag light turns green, shift into first; press A on green, then release A before tapping up for every new gear. Avoid potholes instead of sacrificing speed to a collision. During the road race, steer with small left/right inputs and use B to brake before traffic. If an impact causes an automatic downshift, re-establish the correct gear and acceleration before trying to pass.
Controls
Left/right steers. Release A and press up to upshift or down to downshift, then hold A again; shifting while the accelerator remains held will not work correctly. A accelerates and B brakes. Start pauses the race and confirms setup choices, while A also confirms many screens. Select has no driving function. Collisions, obstacles, or leaving the road may automatically downshift the car.
Race America, Alex DeMeo's — About this game
Alex DeMeo's Race America is Imagineering's NES head-to-head racer built around a cross-country route from Boston toward Los Angeles. Every matchup opens with a side-view drag race, then shifts to a split-screen road duel where traffic, potholes, and other hazards threaten both racers. One player selects computer opponents and advances across the city legs, while two players drive the red and blue cars against each other. Manual upshifts and downshifts require releasing the accelerator, giving starts and recovery after collisions a deliberate rhythm.
