How to Play The Karate Tournament
Quick start
- Practise A for an ordinary attack.
- Add a direction to change the strike.
- Use B with a direction to jump, advance or roll away.
- Try A+B combinations once the basic spacing is comfortable.
Controls
A: attack. B: jump. Facing right, →+A gives Snap Kick, ←+A Double Fist and ↑+A Chop. →+B makes a small forward dash; ←+B rolls backward. A+B gives One-Two Punch; →+A+B gives Forward Roll Out Kicks. Reverse horizontal directions when facing left. Directional stance also sets guard height.
The Karate Tournament — About this game
The Karate Tournament uses an attack button and a jump button, with the directional stance changing which strike comes out. A straight attack, a directional kick and a two-button combination therefore share a compact control scheme. Guarding also depends on the height selected by the direction, making posture as useful as moving forward. Jump combinations provide a short advance or a retreating roll. Learning a few directions first helps turn the small number of buttons into a wider choice of attacks and defensive responses.
