How to Play The King of Fighters '97 (NGM-2320)
Quick start
- Choose Advanced or Extra before assembling your team.
- Learn the selected mode's evasion command and power conditions.
- Practise one reliable special move with each team member.
- Choose a fighting order that makes good use of the team's different ranges.
Controls
A is weak punch, B weak kick, C strong punch and D strong kick. A+B performs a roll in Advanced and a sidestep in Extra. A+B+C activates Advanced's timed powered state by spending one stock; hold it to charge in Extra. Super-move requirements depend on the selected mode.

The King of Fighters '97 (NGM-2320) makes team selection and fighting style part of the same tournament plan. Advanced mode builds stocked power through attacks and special moves, while Extra offers a different approach to charging and evasion. Their rolls, sidesteps and super-move conditions are distinct, so a familiar button combination can serve a different purpose after changing styles. Assemble a three-character team and learn its order as you work toward the conclusion of the Orochi story, where the selected lineup can affect encounters and endings.
