The King of Fighters '98 - The Slugfest / King of Fighters '98 - Dream Match Never Ends (NGM-2420, alt board) — About this game
The dream-match format brings returning King of Fighters contestants together without requiring a new story chapter. You select three fighters, arrange their order, and try to defeat the opposing team through successive individual rounds. A surviving fighter stays in the contest, making every member's remaining health and position in the order matter. Advanced and Extra offer different approaches to movement, evasion, and power management. Advanced favors running, rolling, and stored power stocks, while Extra uses short forward steps, stationary dodges, and a chargeable power gauge. The four attack buttons keep each fighter's basic tools readable, but jumps, throws, blowback attacks, and character-specific commands create many ways to challenge a defense. Learning one dependable attack and one escape option for each team member is a useful foundation before pursuing elaborate combinations.
